Experiments for Kids

This week, we had the pleasure of organizing an educational workshop, in collaboration with Mad Science, for children from 5 to 7 years-old suffering from developmental coordination disorder, (DCD) at the MAB-Mackay Centre‘s DCD summer camp. Our goal with this workshop was to allow children to forget their condition, as much as possible, in an environment, which provided adequate support and plenty of fun!

DCD impacts the child’s autonomy to accomplish daily life activities. This neurological condition causes the incapacity to plan, organize and carry out motor acts to accomplish an action. For example, the child is not able to dress, to blow his nose, to cut food or hit a ball with his foot.

With the Mad Science team, we carried out several experiments, all of them more impressive than the next. The children, along with us were dazzled by a fire show, a plentitude of dry ice fun,  and the techniques behind  a periscope. We also witnessed the launch of a few small rockets and reviewed with the Mad Science team the important steps relevant to a successful launch.

Mad Science’s mission is to share with children scientific knowledge while having fun. Each year, they teach more than 6 million kids, from preschool to sixth grade, all around the world.

Fondation Amal had a lot of fun with the kids and scientists of Mad Science. A huge thank you to Tammy Bouchard, our photographer, who immortalized this workshop with her pictures, and of course, to the Mad Science team for the great organization and incredible workshop.
